On 5th March 2011, St Mark's choir were delighted to take part in a joint concert with the Janice Thompson Performance Trust. A review of the concert is reproduced below:
St Mark's Choir, Swindon combined with The Janice Thompson Performance Trust singers, to perform an exciting programme of vocal music on Saturday evening. The concert opened with works by Benjamin Britten including Festival Te Deum, which was commissioned by St Mark's Choir to celebrate the centenary of the Church. This complex work was beautifully sung, under the direction of the talented Sam Bayliss who sensitively drew great musical detail from the choir.
The main work was Andrew Carter's Benedicte which was vocally and visually very exciting. The younger singers managed great lists of creatures including wiggly worms and centipedes with ease, whilst at the same time sharing their joy of singing with the audience.
It was particularly pleasing to see so many young adults in both choirs, with David Phillips, Bass, giving a stunning performance of Vaughan Williams' The Vagabond.
Due to a combination of teamwork between the choirs, supported by a very able organist, Neil Ricketts, the concert was enjoyable and deserved a much larger audience.
